didericis 8e2465e241 docs(prd): draft encrypted at-rest egress secrets (SecretProvider interim)
The orchestrator holds each bottle's egress auth tokens in process memory
only, so recreating the infra container strips every already-running
bottle of its upstream credentials. The registry row and the gateway CA
both survive; the tokens do not, so /resolve serves an intact policy with
an empty token map and the addon fails closed on `token_env unset`.

Drafts the interim slice of #355: persist the tokens encrypted so they
survive a restart, without regressing to plaintext at rest and without
foreclosing the per-request minting end state. Design section is left for
the author to fill in.

didericis 0ba25352b9 docs(nested-containers): record what live verification established
Documents the proxy-layer precedence that took four attempts to get
right, the blob-CDN routes every registry needs alongside its own, the
podman 5 networking packages and how each one fails when absent, and
the BusyBox wget caveat. Closes the DNS open question: public
resolution inside a nested container fails by design; reaching the
proxy was the real problem.

didericis d0b595828f feat(macos): run containers inside a bottle via guest-local podman
Adds the `nested_containers` bottle flag. On the macOS backend it starts
a rootless podman service inside the bottle and exposes its
Docker-compatible API socket, so the agent still runs `docker` and
`docker compose`. No host daemon socket is mounted and the guest gains
no capabilities; backends that cannot run a guest-local engine reject
the flag in the shared prepare template rather than ignoring it.

Podman rather than rootless Docker because Apple Container's capability
bounding set omits CAP_SYS_ADMIN, which the kernel requires to write a
multi-range uid_map via newuidmap. With no subordinate UID range podman
falls back to a single-UID self-mapping an unprivileged process may
write itself, so the image build strips /etc/subuid and /etc/subgid
entries rather than adding them.

That mapping is also why nested containers are not an isolation layer:
root inside one is the agent user outside it. They are a build/test
convenience; the bottle remains the boundary.

Ports the spike branch onto main, renaming docker_access — it implied
Docker and granted access to nothing on the host — and drops podman
from the derived layer now that every built-in image ships it (#451).

didericis-claude 8a1b833aaa fix(gateway): persist mitmproxy CA on the host, not a named volume (#450)
The shared gateway self-generates a mitmproxy CA that every bottle installs
to trust its TLS interception. It was persisted on a Docker named volume,
which survives `docker rm` but is silently wiped by `docker volume prune` /
`docker system prune --volumes` during routine host maintenance. When that
happens the gateway mints a fresh CA on restart, and every already-running
bottle fails the TLS handshake even after it re-resolves and reconnects to
the moved gateway — a re-attachment blocker distinct from #443/#445.

Move CA persistence to a host bind-mount under the app-data root
(`bot_bottle_root()/gateway-ca`, via `host_gateway_ca_dir()`), mirroring how
the shared DB and control-plane token already live on the host. Docker never
prunes a path under the root, and it stays inspectable + rotatable from the
host. mitmproxy already adopts an existing CA and generates one only on first
run, so the bind-mount gives adopt-existing/generate-on-first-run for free.

Add an explicit rollover path: `rotate_gateway_ca()` clears the persisted CA
so the next start remints it, and `python -m bot_bottle.orchestrator.rotate_ca`
wires that together with dropping the running gateway container (whose
mitmproxy still holds the old CA in memory). Rotation stays an operator action
— it doesn't auto-re-provision running bottles, which re-attach to pick up the
new anchor.

Scope: the Docker infra/gateway path (the "infra container" in the report).
The macOS (`container`-only volume) and Firecracker (VM-attached ext4) backends
persist the CA differently and are unaffected.

Reads the host's Claude OAuth session key from ~/.claude.json at launch
and forwards it only to the egress sidecar (never to the agent), placing
a placeholder CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN in the agent env so Claude Code
starts without seeing the real credential.

Mirrors the existing Codex forward_host_credentials flow (PRD 0029).
Adds claude_auth.py to extract and validate the sessionKey, a
CLAUDE_HOST_CREDENTIAL_TOKEN_REF constant in egress.py, and updates
manifest_agent.py to allow the flag for both 'codex' and 'claude'
templates. Also adds a mutual-exclusion check that rejects setting
both auth_token and forward_host_credentials together.

fix(claude): read credentials from ~/.claude/.credentials.json

The actual OAuth token is in ~/.claude/.credentials.json under
claudeAiOauth.accessToken, not in ~/.claude.json.
~/.claude.json holds only UI state and profile metadata (oauthAccount
has no token fields). expiresAt in the credentials file is milliseconds,
not seconds.

Discovered after testing against Claude Code 2.1.198.

fix(claude): fall back to macOS Keychain for credentials

On macOS, Claude Code stores credentials in the Keychain under
service "Claude Code-credentials" rather than in a file. When
~/.claude/.credentials.json is absent, shell out to:
  security find-generic-password -s "Claude Code-credentials" -w
and parse the result as the same JSON schema.

~/.claude.json holds only profile/UI metadata (oauthAccount has
no token fields). expiresAt in the credentials is milliseconds.

didericis-claude 3fba385513 ci: artifact-based coverage and local Firecracker candidate flow
Each test job now runs once under coverage and uploads a small .coverage.*
artifact. The coverage job combines them on ubuntu-latest — no test reruns,
no KVM dependency. The infra candidate is built directly on the KVM runner,
eliminating the build-infra job and the ~70 s upload + ~83 s combined
download. For PRs, no rootfs artifact is transferred at all. Main-branch
pushes upload the tested rootfs and matching dropbear so publish-infra
publishes the byte-identical artifact. relative_files = True in .coveragerc
lets coverage files from different runners combine without path remapping.

didericis-claude 8e43c26ab4 fix(backend): extract poll_ca_cert helper and fix PRD port docs
Extract the shared CA cert polling loop into `backend/util.poll_ca_cert`

error type. Also corrects the PRD port publication line from {port}:{port}
to {host_port}:8099.

didericis-claude 2f45f5afec feat(docker): consolidate to single infra container under gateway_init supervise tree
Collapses the two-container Docker model (gateway + orchestrator) into one
bot-bottle-infra container, matching the macOS and Firecracker backends.

- Dockerfile.infra: now a shared gateway+orchestrator base (COPY bot_bottle
from orchestrator build, no CMD override)
- Dockerfile.infra.fc: new Firecracker-specific layer (buildah/crun/netavark)
- gateway_init: adds orchestrator daemon with _OPT_IN_DAEMONS gating so it
only starts when BOT_BOTTLE_GATEWAY_DAEMONS explicitly includes it
- orchestrator/lifecycle: OrchestratorService manages one infra container;
builds orchestrator (intermediate) then infra; live source bind-mounted at
/bot-bottle-src with PYTHONPATH so the subprocess uses the checkout
- backend/consolidated_util: extracts provision_bottle + teardown_consolidated
shared across all three backends; removes duplication in docker/fc/macos
  consolidated_launch modules
- firecracker/infra_vm: builds four images (orchestrator→gateway→infra→infra.fc)
- All unit tests updated and passing (1878 tests)
- PRD status: Draft → Active

Closes #412.

The supervise MCP server blocked the agent's tool call polling for the
operator's decision, and on timeout returned `status: pending` with no
proposal id and no way to poll a specific proposal — so the only way to
learn a late decision was to re-propose (a duplicate).

- `handle_tools_call` pending timeout now returns the `proposal_id` and
  points the agent at `check-proposal`.
- New `check-proposal` MCP tool: non-blocking status lookup by proposal id
  (pending | approved | modified | rejected | unknown). Reuses the queue's
FileNotFoundError semantics; archives a decided proposal exactly like the
synchronous path, so a pending proposal stays visible to the operator
until it's both decided and polled.
- `TOOL_CHECK_PROPOSAL` constant, re-exported from supervise; kept out of
TOOLS since it never becomes a Proposal.tool.

Enforcement is unchanged — the tools only propose policy; the egress proxy
and git-gate still enforce — so returning early opens no hole. Follow-ups
(git-gate reject-requeue, backpressure, notifications, web console) are in
the PRD.

Rename the Gitea generic package from bot-bottle-infra to
bot-bottle-firecracker-infra so it's self-evident in the package list which
backend it serves (and leaves room for other artifacts, e.g. a shipped

the package name, not the version. Docker image / VM names are unchanged.

didericis 18f190b7e3 feat(firecracker): pull the infra rootfs as a prebuilt artifact (PRD 0069 Stage 2)
Stage 2 of the docker-free Firecracker backend (#348): stop building the
fixed infra image on the launch host. The infra VM's rootfs is host- and
bottle-agnostic (authorized_keys + guest IP ride the kernel cmdline, not the
rootfs), so it's built once off-host and published as a versioned, ready-to-
boot ext4; the launch host downloads + verifies + boots it — no Docker, no
image tooling, just HTTP + gunzip.

- infra_artifact.py: version = content hash of the rootfs inputs (the shipped
bot_bottle package + the three Dockerfiles + the init), so a launch host
pulls the artifact matching its code and a content change can't silently
  boot a stale rootfs. Pull + sha256-verify (fail-closed) + gunzip from a
Gitea generic package; base/owner/token configurable, default this Gitea.
- infra_vm.ensure_built/boot default to the pull path; BOT_BOTTLE_INFRA_BUILD=
local keeps the docker build-from-source path for iterating on Dockerfiles.
- publish_infra.py: the off-host half — builds the images with Docker, mke2fs
the rootfs (with buildah slack), gzips, and PUTs it to the generic package.

Rollout note: default=pull means a launch 404s until an artifact is published;
until the Gitea packages endpoint is enabled + an artifact published, use
BOT_BOTTLE_INFRA_BUILD=local. Freeze/migrate's remaining docker use is a
separate PR.

didericis 00418a2834 refactor(orchestrator): rename Sidecar -> Gateway for the consolidated data plane
Retire "sidecar" for the consolidated per-host path (PRD 0070 naming
decision): the orchestrator is the umbrella/control plane, and the
egress/git/supervise data-plane unit it runs is the "gateway".

- git mv sidecar.py -> gateway.py and the two integration + one unit test
  files; DockerSidecar->DockerGateway, Sidecar->Gateway,
  SidecarError->GatewayError, SIDECAR_*->GATEWAY_*, ensure_sidecar->
  ensure_gateway, sidecar_status->gateway_status, container name
  bot-bottle-orch-sidecar->bot-bottle-orch-gateway.
- Prose rename across broker/registry/egress/policy_resolver + PRD 0070.
- Preserved: the image name bot-bottle-sidecars, the
  BOT_BOTTLE_SIDECAR_IMAGE env var, Dockerfile.sidecars, and PRD 0069's
own stage-name cross-references (that doc still uses "sidecar").

No behavior change. Full unit suite green (1679 tests; the 13
test_sidecar_init /bin/sleep errors are pre-existing NixOS-local noise).

didericis bd964c0278 feat(orchestrator): registry co-tenants the shared bot-bottle.db (#352)
Per review: use one shared bot-bottle.db for all runtime state including
the registry (DbStore namespaces by schema_key), so it's one queryable
file for backup/console. default_db_path() -> host_db_path(). Drop the
unilateral WAL flip — WAL on the shared DB affects supervise/audit and is
finicky over guest shares, so it's a deliberate future change; keep a
busy_timeout for lock contention.

PRD State section updated: integrity now by SOLE ownership (only the
orchestrator opens bot-bottle.db; data plane + console reach state via the
control-plane RPC, never a file handle) rather than ro/rw mount-splitting,
which one shared file can't do. Notes the transitional caveat that the
supervise sidecar currently rw-mounts bot-bottle.db.

for the VM slices (may want a host-side DB owner reached over the RPC).

Fold the per-bottle sidecar bundle into a single persistent per-host
orchestrator: runs the sidecar functions (egress/git-gate/supervise),
coordinates with the console, and brokers agent launches. Virtualized
from the start with backend-native isolation (fc VM / apple ctr / docker
ctr), fronted by a single backend-agnostic contract; per-backend
variation lives on BottleBackend, not a parallel Orchestrator hierarchy.

Leads with the security review (secret concentration, shared fate, the
launch-broker-as-new-privileged-core, and the source-IP attribution
invariant each backend must enforce). Proposes one SQLite DB owned by the
orchestrator for runtime state (slot leases, approvals, registry) —
distinct from build-time constants (flat .env) and user config
(declarative ~/.bot-bottle). Sequences docker -> firecracker -> macos,
developing the service as a plain-process dev-harness before the VM.

Supersedes 0069's Stage-1/4 sidecar framing; depends on 0069's nix-built
fixed images. Tracking issue #351.

didericis-claude 302920e290 feat: support multiple parents in bottle extends:
Allow extends: to accept a list of bottle names in addition to a plain
string. Parents are resolved independently and folded left-to-right
into a single combined parent before the child is merged on top, so
orthogonal concerns (base env, networking, agent provider) can live in
separate bottles without forcing a linear chain.

Merge rules for the parent fold: env dict-merge with later winning on
collision; git-gate.user per-field overlay; git-gate.repos union by
name with later winning per-field on same name; egress.routes
concatenated; all scalar fields (supervise, agent_provider, egress.log)
use last-wins. The existing child-wins-over-all-parents rule is
unchanged. Cycle detection, diamond deduplication, and missing/invalid
parent errors all work across multi-parent graphs.

didericis-claude 9b929d0684 fix(egress): strip injected Authorization and redact bodies in LOG_FULL path
_log_request and _log_response wrote headers and bodies to stderr verbatim.
_log_request also included the sidecar-injected upstream Authorization value,
exposing live bearer tokens on every allowed request under LOG_FULL.

Apply redact_tokens to all header values and bodies in both log functions;
exclude the authorization header from _log_request entirely since its value
is always a live sidecar-injected credential by the time _log_request runs.

Conform the PRD to the standard PRD-new skeleton: add a Scope section
(In scope / Out of scope), rename Design -> Proposed Design and split
its prose into New services / Existing code touched / Data model
changes / External dependencies, fold the old Implementation chunks
into In scope, and add a References section. No change in substance.

didericis 1ad710a041 Default agent-provider routes to the redact on-match policy
lint / lint (push) Successful in 1m42s
test / unit (pull_request) Successful in 34s
test / integration (pull_request) Successful in 16s
Provider routes (the agent talking to its own LLM API — api.anthropic.com,
the Codex backend, etc.) carry the whole conversation payload, which is the
worst source of token-shaped false positives. egress_routes_for_bottle now
fills outbound_on_match=redact on any provider route that doesn't set it
explicitly, so a match there is scrubbed and forwarded rather than blocked
or queued for the operator. A provider that sets the policy keeps its
choice; manifest routes still default to supervise.

Tests: provider route gets redact default, explicit provider policy
preserved, manifest route unaffected. README + PRD 0062 updated.
