egress_entrypoint.sh is the mitmdump launcher for the egress data plane, so it belongs with the gateway egress service, not at the package root. Moved to bot_bottle/gateway/egress/entrypoint.sh (prefix stripped now that the package namespaces it). Only the Dockerfile.gateway COPY source changes; the runtime target (/app/egress-entrypoint.sh, referenced by bootstrap's egress DaemonSpec) is unchanged, and the infra images inherit it via FROM gateway. Group the gateway's data-plane modules into three service sub-packages mirroring the host-side trio (bot_bottle.egress / .supervisor / .git_gate): gateway/egress/ addon_core, addon, dlp_config, dlp_detectors gateway/supervisor/ server (was supervise_server) gateway/git_gate/ render, http_backend Prefix-stripped filenames now that the package namespaces them; each sub-package has a thin docstring __init__ (no eager imports, cheap leaf loads). The two cross-cutting files stay at the gateway root: policy_resolver (shared per-client lookup) and gateway_init, renamed to bootstrap now that gateway/ already namespaces it. Updated all importers (bot_bottle + tests), the in-VM/container `-m` launch strings, the Dockerfile.gateway addon shim + ENTRYPOINT, and the five gateway entries in scripts/critical-modules.txt. Separate the gateway (data plane) from the orchestrator (control plane) at the
module level. The gateway runtime files move out of the package root — and the
backend-neutral Gateway lifecycle ABC + GATEWAY_* constants move out of
orchestrator/ — into a new bot_bottle/gateway/ package:
gateway/__init__.py (was orchestrator/gateway.py: Gateway ABC + consts
+ rotate_gateway_ca)
gateway/gateway_init.py (the PID-1 daemon supervisor)
gateway/egress_addon.py, egress_addon_core.py, egress_dlp_config.py,
dlp_detectors.py (the egress mitmproxy daemon)
gateway/git_http_backend.py (the git-http daemon)
gateway/git_gate_render.py (the git-gate pre-receive rendering)
gateway/supervise_server.py (the supervise MCP daemon)
gateway/policy_resolver.py (the data-plane control-plane RPC client)
orchestrator/ now holds only control-plane files. The shared plan/types/auth
layer (egress.py=EgressPlan, git_gate.py=GitGatePlan, supervise.py,
supervise_types.py, control_auth.py) and the launch-time git-gate provisioning
helpers stay at root, so orchestrator/ and backend/ still own them.
Because these daemons are invoked as `python3 -m bot_bottle.<name>`, loaded flat
by mitmproxy, and referenced in Dockerfile.gateway, the move updates more than
Python imports: the `-m` invocations (firecracker/macOS infra scripts), the
Dockerfile.gateway addon shim + ENTRYPOINT, gateway_init's _DAEMONS module
paths, and the git-gate CGI heredocs all now point at bot_bottle.gateway.*.
No behavior change; full unit suite green (2251).

fix(supervise): reach the queue over RPC, get bot-bottle.db off the data plane
PRD 0070's rule — only the orchestrator opens bot-bottle.db; the data plane reaches state through the control-plane RPC — was not in force. Three data-plane daemons held a direct read-write handle on the shared SQLite file: the supervise MCP server, the egress DLP addon (the most attack-exposed process, TLS-bumping hostile traffic), and the git-gate pre-receive hook. An RCE in any of them could read every bottle's plaintext identity_token and forge attribution fleet-wide (issue #469). Add the agent half of the supervise flow to the control plane: POST /supervise/propose -> queue a proposal, 201 {proposal_id} POST /supervise/poll -> non-blocking decision poll, 200 {status,...} Both attribute the caller by (source_ip, identity_token) exactly like /resolve — never a caller-supplied slug — so a bottle can only ever queue or read its own proposals even if the data plane is compromised. A decided poll archives server-side, preserving the archive-after-read contract. Data plane: the supervise server, egress addon, and git-gate hook now queue/poll through PolicyResolver.propose_supervise / poll_supervise instead of opening the DB. supervise_server keeps its ~30s grace window by polling the RPC; egress keeps its safelist keyed by resolved bottle; the git-gate hook gets (source_ip, identity_token) from the CGI env. Packaging: drop the DB bind-mount and SUPERVISE_DB_PATH from the data-plane containers/VMs (docker gateway + infra, macOS infra, firecracker infra). The orchestrator remains the sole opener of the one file via BOT_BOTTLE_ROOT / host_db_path(). Update PRD 0070: the rule is now in force; remove the transitional caveat. refactor(gateway): replace egress_addon.py copy with a one-line shim
mitmdump -s requires a file path, not a module. Instead of copying the full egress_addon.py to /app/, write a one-line shim at image build time that re-exports addons from the installed package. mitmdump finds the addons list in the shim's namespace; all real addon code stays in bot_bottle/egress_addon.py. |

refactor(gateway): invoke daemons via python3 -m instead of /app/ file copies
supervise_server, git_http_backend, and gateway_init all have __main__ guards, so python3 -m bot_bottle.X replaces the individual COPY lines to /app/. egress_addon.py stays as a file copy because mitmdump -s requires a file path rather than a module reference. |

refactor(gateway): replace flat-file import shims with installed package
Install bot_bottle via pip in Dockerfile.gateway instead of COPYing individual .py files flat under /app/. This eliminates the try/except import shims in egress_addon_core, dlp_detectors, egress_addon, supervise, supervise_server, and git_http_backend that existed only to support the flat-bundle layout. Adds bot_bottle/constants.py as a single source of truth for IDENTITY_HEADER and GIT_GATE_TIMEOUT_SECS, removing the duplicated literal definitions in egress_addon.py, supervise_server.py, git_http_backend.py, and git_gate_render.py. Test files updated to match: test_supervise_server.py drops the sys.path.insert hack in favour of direct package imports; the egress_addon test shims no longer pre-populate sys.modules with a bare egress_addon_core alias. |

refactor(gateway): fail closed without an orchestrator URL; drop stale single-tenant comments
Follow-ups from the #402 review of the single-tenant data-plane teardown. - egress_entrypoint.sh: refuse to launch mitmdump when BOT_BOTTLE_ORCHESTRATOR_URL is unset, so the fail-closed guarantee no longer rests solely on mitmproxy's errorcheck addon exiting on the addon's load-time raise. A misconfigured gateway can never come up as a bare TLS-bumping open proxy with no policy. - orchestrator/gateway.py: ensure_running() raises GatewayError on an empty orchestrator URL — a URL-less launch would only crash-loop the now-resolver-only daemons (egress raises, git-http exits 1, supervise exits 2). The env-injection branch is now unconditional. - Drop stale "single-tenant" / "reads routes.yaml" comments in gateway.py and egress_entrypoint.sh, and the /etc/egress/routes.yaml layout line in Dockerfile.gateway. - Tests: gateway fixtures supply an orchestrator URL; add a refuse-without-URL test and assert the URL env is injected. fix(git-gate): install the gitleaks binary for the build's target arch
The gateway Dockerfile hardcoded the linux_x64 gitleaks download, so an image built on/for aarch64 (Apple Silicon) baked in an x86_64 binary. It sat quiet until the git-gate pre-receive hook first invoked it, where the kernel refused the foreign-arch exec — `gitleaks: Exec format error` — failing every push through that gateway. Pick the asset + pinned SHA from the build's target architecture: TARGETARCH (auto-populated by BuildKit) with a `dpkg --print-architecture` fallback for a legacy builder, and hard-fail on any unsupported arch. Each arch keeps its own SHA256 verification, so no supply-chain regression. The existing integration test test_gateway_image.py:: test_gitleaks_binary_present_and_versioned execs `gitleaks version` in the built image, so it now passes on arm64 instead of hitting the same error. refactor(gateway): install gitleaks by pinned+verified download, drop third-party base image (PR #354 review)
The gateway used `FROM zricethezav/gitleaks AS gitleaks-src` purely to COPY the binary out — a supply-chain surface (a whole third-party image as a build input, tying us to its cadence). Install gitleaks from its official release instead, pinned by version + SHA256 and verified. python (already in the image) does the download, so no curl/wget is added. trixie apt also ships gitleaks but an older 8.16; the pinned download keeps the verified 8.30.1 (byte-identical to what the image provided). refactor(firecracker): single infra VM builds too — buildah in one image (PR #354 review)
Addresses the review finding that buildah lived only in the orchestrator
image, so the persistent infra VM wasn't the builder — a separate throwaway
builder VM contended with it for the orchestrator TAP. Consolidate:
- **Rebase the gateway (and thus infra) on `python:3.12-slim` = Debian
trixie**, pip-installing mitmproxy instead of `FROM mitmproxy/mitmproxy`
(Debian bookworm). trixie ships buildah 1.39, which can build agent
Dockerfiles that use heredocs; bookworm's 1.28 can't (`Unknown
instruction: "{"`). CA path is unchanged (set via `--set confdir=`).
- **buildah lives only in `Dockerfile.infra`** now (removed from the
orchestrator image, which is lean/stdlib-only again).
- **Shared orchestrator content**: `Dockerfile.orchestrator` is the single
definition of the control-plane payload; the infra image `COPY --from`s
it (same trixie base → clean copy, and future deps like iroh are added
once). The docker backend runs the orchestrator image directly.
- **`image_builder` builds inside the infra VM** (which now has buildah)
over SSH — no throwaway builder VM, so the `bborch0` contention is gone.
`ensure_built` builds orchestrator + gateway before infra (FROM gateway,
COPY --from orchestrator).
Verified on a KVM host: images build (buildah 1.39 in infra), the agent
image builds *inside* the infra VM (heredoc Dockerfile and all), the infra
VM stays healthy, the agent boots and `claude --version` = 2.1.172. The
rebased gateway still starts as a docker container and generates its CA
(docker backend unaffected).

refactor(de-sidecar): rename sidecar_init→gateway_init, drop docker's dead per-bottle compose renderer
Part of the de-sidecar cleanup (#385 discussion): the per-bottle companion container is the old architecture. - Rename `bot_bottle/sidecar_init.py` → `gateway_init.py` (it's the gateway image's PID-1 supervisor); env var `BOT_BOTTLE_SIDECAR_DAEMONS` → `BOT_BOTTLE_GATEWAY_DAEMONS`; log prefix `sidecar-init:` → `gateway-init:`. Update Dockerfile.gateway COPY/ENTRYPOINT and the test. - Remove the dead per-bottle compose renderer from `backend/docker/compose.py` (`bottle_plan_to_compose`, `_sidecar_bundle_service`, `_agent_service`, and the network/bind/proxy helpers). Docker's live path uses `consolidated_agent_compose`; only the compose *lifecycle* helpers (up/down/ls/write) remain. Trim `test_compose.py` to the surviving helpers. refactor(orchestrator): split conflated sidecar image into orchestrator + gateway images
One image — `bot-bottle-sidecars:latest`, built from `Dockerfile.sidecars` — served two unrelated roles: the egress/git-gate/supervise *data plane* and the orchestrator *control plane* (which ran the same image with the entrypoint overridden to `python3 -m bot_bottle.orchestrator`). The control plane is stdlib-only, so it needed none of the mitmproxy/git/gitleaks payload it was riding on — while being the most secret-dense process on the host (PRD 0070's "secret concentration"). Split into two purpose-built images: - `Dockerfile.gateway` -> `bot-bottle-gateway:latest` — the data plane (renamed from Dockerfile.sidecars; identical contents). - `Dockerfile.orchestrator` -> `bot-bottle-orchestrator:latest` — a lean `python:3.12-slim` runtime; the bind-mounted `bot_bottle` package supplies the code (so the #381 source-hash recreate semantics are unchanged). `OrchestratorService` now takes distinct `image` (control plane, default `ORCHESTRATOR_IMAGE`) and `gateway_image` (data plane, default `GATEWAY_IMAGE`) instead of feeding one `self.image` to both, and builds the lean image (build-if-missing) before starting the container. The per-bottle bundle constants in `backend/docker/sidecar_bundle.py` now alias the gateway constants so a bundle and the shared gateway can never drift onto different images. The `bot-bottle-sidecars` *image* name and `Dockerfile.sidecars` are gone; the per-bottle *container* name prefix (`bot-bottle-sidecars-<slug>`) is intentionally left for a separate change. Verified end-to-end: both images build; the lean image runs the control plane; `ensure_running` brings up the orchestrator on `bot-bottle-orchestrator:latest` and the gateway on `bot-bottle-gateway:latest` (distinct images) and reports healthy.
