didericis-claude 4d51b1aa02 fix(claude): don't log the raw identity token in supervise MCP recovery hint

The previous fix interpolated the real per-bottle identity token into the
`warn()` message shown when `claude mcp add supervise` fails, so a
registration failure would leak the credential into host terminal output
and any collected launch logs (#476 review, PR #471 comment).

Render a `<bottle-identity-token>` placeholder instead. The recovery hint
still shows the required `--header x-bot-bottle-identity: …` shape, and the
operator substitutes the value from inside the bottle (it rides in the
agent's HTTPS_PROXY credentials) — so the token never reaches the host log.
The token truthiness still gates whether the header is shown at all.

Test updated to assert the header name and placeholder are present and the
raw token is absent.

didericis-claude 7169db1ebe fix(claude): include identity header in supervise MCP fallback recovery command

The manual registration command shown in the fallback warning when
`claude mcp add supervise` fails was missing the `--header
x-bot-bottle-identity: <token>` option. Since (source_ip,
identity_token) attribution is now mandatory on the supervise server,
the missing header caused every subsequent supervise request to fail
closed as unattributed — defeating supervision for the entire bottle.

Reuse the already-constructed `token` variable to build the same
`manual_header` string the automatic path uses; include it in the
printed command. Tests verify both the happy path and the fallback
include (or correctly omit) the header.

Addresses P2 finding in #471 (comment 7, didericis-codex 2026-07-25).

- Drop the module-level paragraph emphasizing the single-UID security
boundary (#issuecomment-5010): redundant given the safe environment.
- Move `podman` from each agent image (claude, codex, pi) into the
`build_image` derived layer so bottles without `nested_containers`
  pay no image-size cost (#issuecomment-5013).
- Update `build_image` docstring and inline comments to reflect the move.
- Add TODO(#394) noting the planned docker-layer abstraction refactor.

Reads the host's Claude OAuth session key from ~/.claude.json at launch
and forwards it only to the egress sidecar (never to the agent), placing
a placeholder CLAUDE_CODE_OAUTH_TOKEN in the agent env so Claude Code
starts without seeing the real credential.

Mirrors the existing Codex forward_host_credentials flow (PRD 0029).
Adds claude_auth.py to extract and validate the sessionKey, a
CLAUDE_HOST_CREDENTIAL_TOKEN_REF constant in egress.py, and updates
manifest_agent.py to allow the flag for both 'codex' and 'claude'
templates. Also adds a mutual-exclusion check that rejects setting
both auth_token and forward_host_credentials together.

fix(claude): read credentials from ~/.claude/.credentials.json

The actual OAuth token is in ~/.claude/.credentials.json under
claudeAiOauth.accessToken, not in ~/.claude.json.
~/.claude.json holds only UI state and profile metadata (oauthAccount
has no token fields). expiresAt in the credentials file is milliseconds,
not seconds.

Discovered after testing against Claude Code 2.1.198.

fix(claude): fall back to macOS Keychain for credentials

On macOS, Claude Code stores credentials in the Keychain under
service "Claude Code-credentials" rather than in a file. When
~/.claude/.credentials.json is absent, shell out to:
  security find-generic-password -s "Claude Code-credentials" -w
and parse the result as the same JSON schema.

~/.claude.json holds only profile/UI metadata (oauthAccount has
no token fields). expiresAt in the credentials is milliseconds.

didericis 7118480d0a fix(codex): register supervise MCP via config.toml http_headers, not mcp add --header

The Codex CLI has no `codex mcp add --header` flag (verified against
0.144.5 and the codex-rs `AddMcpStreamableHttpArgs` surface: only
`--url`, `--bearer-token-env-var`, `--oauth-*`, `--env`). The old call
therefore exited nonzero on every codex bottle; provisioning only
warned and continued, so supervise was silently unregistered — and
under mandatory (source_ip, token) attribution the suggested manual
recovery (`codex mcp add supervise --url ...`, no token) could not
restore access either.

Write the `[mcp_servers.supervise]` streamable-HTTP entry directly into
`~/.codex/config.toml` instead, delivering the identity token via the
Codex-supported `http_headers` key (the only way to attach a static
request header to an HTTP MCP server). Registration failure is now
FATAL when supervise is enabled, rather than a warning.

Test validates the generated entry against the real Codex config
surface: it must parse as TOML into a streamable-HTTP server carrying
the token as `http_headers["x-bot-bottle-identity"]`, and must use only
keys accepted by `RawMcpServerConfig` (config.toml is
`deny_unknown_fields`). Also covers custom `CODEX_HOME`, the no-token
case, and the now-fatal failure path.

didericis d4b27ebf1f feat(gateway): mandatory identity-token attribution on every data plane (PR #354 review)

Codex review: the /31 TAP doesn't make source IP unspoofable, and the
app-layer token was returned by launch but never delivered or enforced, so
a spoofed source could select a victim bottle's policy/tokens. Make the
token mandatory and deliver it on each attributed plane (anti-spoof landed
separately as the network boundary).

Enforcement (control plane):
- `Orchestrator.resolve` now requires a matching (source_ip, identity_token)
  pair (constant-time) — no source-IP-only fallback. `/resolve` fail-closes
  (403) on a missing/empty/mismatched token.

Delivery, per plane (the token is `token_urlsafe`, safe in a URL):
- egress: proxy credentials (`HTTPS_PROXY=http://bottle:<token>@gw`). The
addon reads `Proxy-Authorization` — from the request (HTTP) or captured at
the CONNECT for HTTPS tunnels (keyed by client conn, cleared on disconnect)
  — validates, and strips it (+ the legacy header) before upstream.
- git-http: a URL-scoped `http.<gate>/.extraHeader: x-bot-bottle-identity`
in the agent's git config (only over the http transport).
- supervise: `mcp add --header x-bot-bottle-identity: <token>` (claude +
codex); the server reads the header and passes it to resolve.

Wiring: thread `ctx.identity_token` onto the firecracker + docker plans and
into the agent env/config at launch.

Verified on a KVM host: egress with the correct proxy-cred token returns
200 (HTTP and HTTPS/CONNECT), and no-token / wrong-token return 403; a real
`cli.py start --backend=firecracker` launch provisions git config + the
supervise MCP header and reaches the agent session, all under mandatory
enforcement. Fixed a `claude mcp add` arg-order bug (--header must follow
the positional name/url) found by that launch.

Transparent proxy for tools that ignore proxy env is deferred to a
follow-up (see thread); anti-spoof + host firewall remain the fail-closed
boundary.

didericis e45df03bd9 fix: smoke-test agent images after build, add start --no-cache
npm treats optionalDependencies failures as non-fatal, so a transient
network blip fetching claude-code's platform-native binary during
`npm install -g` left a stub CLI in an image that still "built"
successfully — then got baked into the Docker/Container layer cache
until forced to rebuild. Post-build smoke test (provider-declared
argv, run in a throwaway container of the freshly built image) fails
the launch loudly instead of shipping a broken image; --no-cache
gives an escape hatch to force a from-scratch rebuild.

Closes #353.

didericis 09393b354b refactor(de-sidecar): purge the "sidecar" name from live code, tests, and current docs

test / unit (pull_request) Successful in 1m11s

Completes the de-sidecar cleanup: no live code, test, current doc,
script, or nix file mentions or is named "sidecar" any more. Only the
dated PRD/research docs keep the term as historical record (agreed on
the #385 thread).

- Rename `sidecar_init.py`→`gateway_init.py` was done earlier; this pass
sweeps the remaining descriptive uses: the egress / git-gate / supervise
components are the gateway's *daemons*, the shared container is the
*gateway*, the old per-bottle container was the *companion container*.
- Rename `tests/integration/test_sidecar_bundle_image.py`→`test_gateway_image.py`
and its class; update `docs/ci.md` + `tests/README.md` for the renamed/
  removed integration tests.
- `SIDECAR_PORTS` shell var in `scripts/firecracker-netpool.sh`→`GATEWAY_PORTS`.

Full unit suite green (bar the pre-existing `/bin/sleep`-missing env
errors in test_gateway_init); docker integration — gateway singleton,
broker, real two-bottle multitenant isolation, and the gateway-image
build — all pass.

Empirical verification on NixOS/Linux with /dev/kvm + smolvm 1.4.7:

  1. DB path confirmed: ~/.local/share/smolvm/server/smolvm.db exists,
schema matches (vms table, data BLOB with allowed_cidrs JSON field).

  2. smolvm 1.4.7 still silently drops --allow-cidr with --from
(allowed_cidrs=None in DB after create). force_allowlist patch
     is still necessary and correct.

  3. All 5 sandbox-escape attacks blocked with BOT_BOTTLE_BACKEND=smolmachines
on Linux: hostname/IP allowlist, HTTP DLP, DNS exfil, git-gate gitleaks.

Changes:
- test_sandbox_escape: remove darwin-only guard; allow linux too
- contrib/claude/Dockerfile: add dnsutils (dig) for attack 4 DNS test

didericis c5b9f05467 fix(smolmachines): use bridge gateway as TSI proxy host on Linux
On Linux the guest kernel's LOCAL routing table routes all
127.0.0.0/8 to the guest's own loopback interface (priority 0,
checked before any main-table route), so TSI never sees
connections to the per-bottle loopback alias — the fix_guest_
loopback_routing approach confirmed this at the kernel level.

Use the per-bottle docker bridge gateway (192.168.N.1) instead.
It is not a loopback address, so the guest routes it via eth0
and TSI intercepts it normally. The TSI allowlist remains a
/32 that is distinct from the container IP (192.168.N.2), so
direct bypass to egress:9099 is still blocked by TSI.

Changes:
- Add _proxy_host() helper: returns bundle_gateway on Linux,
  loopback alias on macOS
- Thread proxy_host through _start_bundle, _discover_urls,
  _launch_vm, and _bundle_launch_spec (publish_host_ip)
- Remove _fix_guest_loopback_routing (no longer needed)
- Relax proxy-URL assertion in the integration test to accept
any http://IP:port (with a comment explaining the difference)

`--headless` is a non-interactive launch path for `cli.py start`:
agent, bottles, label, and color come from flags + manifest defaults
with no TUI selectors and no y/N preflight (auto-confirmed via a new
`assume_yes` param threaded into the shared `_launch_bottle` core).

- `--bottle` (repeatable) defaults to the agent's own `bottle:`;
`--label` defaults to the agent name and auto-uniquifies on slug
  collision; `--color` defaults to none.
- `--prompt TEXT` is required in headless mode and is delivered to the
agent via a new `headless_prompt(prompt)` method on `AgentProvider`,
implemented for claude (`-p`), codex (positional), and pi (`-p`).
- The agent still execs on inherited stdio/PTY, so whatever allocates
the PTY drives the live session; only the launch chrome is headless.
- `--headless --dry-run` previews the resolved plan without launching.

Adds unit coverage in tests/unit/test_cli_start_headless.py and
headless_prompt tests for each provider. Also stubs headless_prompt on
the in-test AgentProvider subclasses so the unit suite collects cleanly.

Closes #315.

Skill names become host/guest path segments interpolated into the
`bottle.exec` shell strings in each contrib provider's provision_skills.
They were validated only as strings, so a name with shell metacharacters
or path traversal could reach the command.

Layer two defenses:
  - Primary: reject any skill name that isn't kebab-case
([a-z][a-z0-9-]*) at manifest load, reusing the convention already
enforced on bottle/agent filenames (new is_valid_entity_name helper
in manifest_schema). Fails loud and early, protecting every consumer
of the name — not just the exec call sites.
  - Failsafe: shlex.quote the interpolated skills_dir / dst paths in the
claude, codex, and pi providers, so a future unvalidated field can't
inject shell metacharacters even if it bypasses the load-time check.

didericis-claude 508c537deb fix: add explicit timeouts to subprocess and HTTP calls in git-gate paths
Closes #255. Without timeouts, a hung upstream during the access-hook

API during deploy-key provisioning (contrib/gitea/deploy_key_provisioner.py)
could wedge a sidecar indefinitely. Adds GIT_HTTP_BACKEND_TIMEOUT_SECS
(30s) to both subprocess.run calls in the HTTP backend, mirroring the
existing GIT_GATE_DAEMON_TIMEOUT_SECS on the daemon path. Adds
_API_TIMEOUT_SECS (30s) and _KEYGEN_TIMEOUT_SECS (10s) to the Gitea
provisioner's urlopen and ssh-keygen calls. Tests verify the timeout
values are forwarded in all four call sites.

Gitea returns HTTP 422 when a deploy key title or public key content

as a generic RuntimeError with the raw status code. Introduce
DeployKeyCollisionError (a RuntimeError subclass) in the base module
and detect 422 in GiteaDeployKeyProvisioner.create so callers can
catch collisions explicitly and the error message names the repo and
title involved.

BottleSpec.manifest was ManifestIndex | Manifest — a union encoding
two lifecycle stages in one field. The union was unjustifiable:
it forced a type-narrowing workaround (loaded_manifest property)
on every consumer.

Clean split:
- BottleSpec.manifest: ManifestIndex (always; CLI-supplied intent)
- BottlePlan.manifest: Manifest (always; loaded by _validate())

_validate() returns the loaded Manifest directly. prepare() passes
it to _resolve_plan(), which stores it on the plan. All provisioner
code now reads plan.manifest.agent / plan.manifest.bottle — no
union, no asserts, no type: ignore.

didericis-claude 56ef71060a fix(types): add BottleSpec.loaded_manifest to satisfy pyright on union type
BottleSpec.manifest is ManifestIndex | Manifest (pre/post _validate()).
Downstream code always runs post-validate so it needs Manifest, but
pyright flagged every .agent/.bottle access. The new loaded_manifest
property asserts isinstance and returns Manifest, giving pyright a
narrowed type without scattering type: ignore everywhere.

Also remove unused Manifest imports from test files and annotate the

didericis-claude 294a6ed023 refactor(manifest): split Manifest into ManifestIndex + Manifest single-value type
Manifest now holds exactly one agent and one effective bottle (with
git_user overlay already applied). The old multi-agent/bottle
collection is renamed ManifestIndex. BottleSpec.manifest starts as
ManifestIndex from the CLI and becomes Manifest after _validate()
calls load_for_agent(); all provisioning code downstream reads
spec.manifest.agent / spec.manifest.bottle instead of indexing by name.

Remove the 8 non-bright and 1 bright-black colors from all color maps.
Rename the remaining 7 bright-* colors to their base names (e.g.
bright-green → green) so the palette is smaller and always vibrant.

Update _init_color_pairs in tui.py to always apply A_BOLD (all palette
entries are now bright variants), and fix all tests to match.

didericis b1551045dc feat(terminal): tint terminal background per agent color
test / unit (pull_request) Successful in 29s
test / integration (pull_request) Successful in 17s
Add backend-agnostic terminal color support via OSC escape sequences:
- New backend/terminal.py with palette_printf() and exec_shell_script()
shared by both Docker and smolmachines bottle backends
- Emits OSC 4 (indexed palette) + OSC 11 (default background tint)
before launching; resets both on agent exit via OSC 104/111
- OSC 11 background tint is visible even when the TUI uses true/24-bit
colors (which bypass the palette), as Codex does for its chrome
- Fix Codex [tui] config: status_line=["model-with-reasoning"],
  theme="ansi" (dark-ansi and cwd/directory were invalid identifiers)

didericis d02226aab9 feat: forward agent style via native CLI config and terminal title
Replace prompt-injection for display identity with native UI wiring:
- Claude: writes a statusline shell script + custom theme JSON, wired up
via settings.json so label/color show in the status bar and theme
- Codex: writes [tui] block into codex-config.toml (status_line,
  terminal_title, dark-ansi theme)
- Both backends set the terminal title via ANSI OSC 0 escape before
exec-ing the agent when a label is present

didericis-claude a64e3170cd refactor: make AgentProvisionPlan the source of truth for instance_name, prompt_file, image, dockerfile, guest_home
Drop the parallel fields passed through prepare() → _resolve_plan and
read everything from agent_provision instead. The provider plugin now
declares its own guest_home (so the backend stops hardcoding
"/home/node") and the wrapper that builds the provision plan accepts
instance_name and prompt_file, which providers store on the plan.

DockerBottlePlan and SmolmachinesBottlePlan expose container_name /
machine_name, image / agent_image, dockerfile_path /
agent_dockerfile_path, and prompt_file as properties that delegate to
agent_provision so existing call sites keep working unchanged.

didericis-claude f23b2b9683 refactor: move guest_home onto AgentProvisionPlan as source of truth
guest_home is now a field on AgentProvisionPlan (set by each provider's
provision_plan() method). BottlePlan.guest_home becomes a read-only
property delegating to agent_provision.guest_home so existing callers
(provision_git, provision_skills, provision_prompt) are unchanged.

Both resolve_plan.py files drop guest_home from the plan constructor
call; the local variable still exists as an intermediary for the
workspace_plan call that precedes agent_provision_plan.
